Black Friday Sales or Extended Diwali Mela?

Black Friday Sale text on a red and black tag. Shopping concept.

The foreign brands have penetrated Indian markets like never before! We wear their clothes, use their electronics and watch their movies. We know about their culture well. It was almost natural for the Black Friday sale to penetrate into the Indian market, especially with big industry giants trying to woo the Indian market and cut competition with local startups!

Black Friday Sale as a concept comes from western festive season starting right from Thanksgiving until Christmas and New Year. Usually on the Friday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday Sales offer huge discounts and deals across all brands to mark the start of Christmas festivities. It is known to be the biggest sales and revenue record for retailers across categories especially in USA, UK and Europe. Basically, happy times for everyone!

Diwali never ended for the millennial shoppers

Well, doesn’t it remind you of Diwali? How our parents would wait and plan buying big household items and especially electronics like Microwaves, Washing Machine, Cars, and Computers in anticipation of huge discounts being offered during Diwali! The markets would usually be flooded with all things festive as shopkeepers would put out special discount items for sale.

Black Friday sale essentially feels like extended Diwali sale in India especially for millenials who  ave set their sights to buy those international brands during the Black Friday sales. So, it seems we don’t really need Black Friday Sales in India as we have always had one! But hey, who says no to extra days of discounts, eh?

Especially when shopping online has become more of a trend and a kind of comfort zone for the millennial shopper! So long we are getting extra deals and heavy discounts, especially on global products, increasing revenue sales of multiple businesses at the same time; it’s a win- win! Well, this may be win-win for business but certainly it means a big dent our pockets which we don’t realize unless we see the statements (hope we don’t need to mention which statements) ;).

You can do nothing about it now

You can surely do nothing about “Confirm The Order” button you pressed in the last weeks as you already might have shopped for things that you might not use or need. But here’s what you can still do to avoid the FOMO that you fall prey to in these sale seasons (btw which have just begun for winters or new years).

Hope your weekends aren’t getting really dark because you shopped too much during the Black Friday Sale. Happy Weekend!
